Maya's Musical Diary Fall-Winter 2005

December 20, 2005

Hi!! Both concerts were wonderful!! Everyone did a great
job and it was wonderful that we could share our hard work
with all the people who attended! Thursday we had really bad
weather but people still braved the storm to come so it was great,
and on Sunday we had a full house of people. The whole thing
was really great..I have no complaints!

Now, I am working on the Mozart Birthday Concert with Olga,
and all of the arpeggios and the first movement of the Bruch
Concerto in G minor for my lesson with Mr. Fulkerson in
January! Have a wonderful Tuesday before Winter break!!

December 13, 2005

Hello! With the concerts coming up and the trips to Oberlin
and all the rehearsals I have been quite busy lately! I really
hope that these concerts will be great...because I have been
working extremely hard for everything!

Well, I still need to do my yoga for the day!!

December 9, 2005

I am really sorry that I haven't written all week..I have been
extremely busy. My first lesson with Mr. Fulkerson was
amazing..it was lots of fun, and he had so much to say.

I have been working a lot this week on the Bartok..last night
Linda and I had a big rehearsal with Cliff!

It snowed last night so it is gorgeous..but it also means that I
should probably get a move on and go out and shovel!!

December 2, 2005

Well everybody...yesterday was a bad day. My beautiful bow,
which I had just named and which will be in my heart forever
got knocked off my music stand at home, hit a chair in the
perfect spot, and broke right then and there. I have the
remains with me...and it is like seeing an injured best friend.
Today I am dedicating this entry in the memory of my
bow, Elisabetta.

So, because of that incident ,my mom and I have to go up
to Ann Arbor this afternoon to go to Shar's to try out bows,
and bring some home for trials. I should go now and practice,
because there is still lots to do.

December 1, 2005

Happy December everyone! Today I have quite a few things
going on...lots of practicing and some rehearsals, and Eileen
is coming later. It will be a long day and I will be practicing
a lot of the Bach Sonata No. 1 and the Bartok Rhapsody
No. 2 and Kreatzer etude No. 32.

November 29, 2005

Another day has arrived! I have a busy day ahead! Tonight is the
orchestra concert, so we have a rehearsal that begins earlier.
I also have have Grace and Shawn coming this afternoon for
a rehearsal. My Bach Sonata in Gminor is coming along really
well, and I really like the piece! Bartok is coming too, but the
second movement is still not up to tempo.

November 28, 2005

Hi! I'm back from the trip, and last night I had a group rehearsal
which went pretty well. Today I have a ton of stuff...a reheasrsal
this morning, a coaching on the Stravinsky with Merwin, and
orchestra tonight! I should probably go get ready to bike over
to my first rehearsal.

November 23, 2005

Hello everyone! I will be out of town for the newt couple of days
for Thanksgiving, but I will be home soon to write again! And
also I have organized a group practice gor Sunday instead of
Saturday just in case anyone was worried that we would have
to cancel group! I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

November 22, 2005

Phew...I wish I could sleep more!! I have an extremely busy day,
though, so that will not be possible! I have my own practice, this
afternoon I have a Schumann practice since tomorrow is break,
Grace is coming after that, and orchestra is tonight!! Lots to
do before I sleep!! hehe :)

November 21, 2005

Sorry that I haven't written in awhile. I have been extremely busy with
lots of rehearsals like with Linda, the group, Claire, and Grace.
Today too is a busy day with Linda coming this morning and rehearsals
with Cliff for the rest of the day. Well, I will write again later..I have
some things to get done this morning.

November 17, 2005

Today is Thursday..and everyone knows what that mean...the busiest
day of my week..I don't stop at all today..but to tell you the truth,
I like Thursdays, so I'm not complaining!!

Well..the Schumann group is starting a new movement today and
I should go work on it. Oh..And our feelings go out to Auram (Schumann
Quintet pianist) and her hand..I hope for a smooth and quick recovery!

November 16, 2005

My audition was amazing on Monday!! He accepted me into
his studio and we start lessons the Saturday after Thanksgiving!!
Yay!

Right now though, there is a lot to get done..the Bartok Rhapsody,
new scale fingerings, orchestra music, Webern Op.7, Vibvaldi
'Il Piacere", start working on the Bach G minor Sonata,
and a new movement of the Schumann...oh buddy that is
a lot!! Oh well...I'll write more later!

November 13, 2005

Hello everyone! Yesterday I went to Oberlin and practiced
a whole ton for my audition tomorrow. I also found Mr.
Fulkerson's studio so that I know exactly where to go tomorrow!

Today I have lots of practicing to do for tomorrow..I want everything
to be as perfect as possible! Well..I should go get ready..lots
to do before I sleep tonight!!

November 10, 2005

And today I know what I need to play for my audition. I
need to have a lot of pieces ready to play for him. It won't
be a traditional audition with Paganigi and Mozart but I
really hope it goes well!!

Today my Schumann group has a performance in recital
hour..it should go really great! Well, I should be off!

November 9, 2005

I am extremely excited..yesterday I set up an audition lesson
with Mr, Fulkerson in Oberlin...I can't wait! I have to decide
exactly what to play! I am a little nervous, but I really hope
that it goes well!!

Well...on that note..I should go work on the Chacconne...
I should have everything by heart!

November 8, 2005

Remember to go out and vote everybody!!

Well, today I have a rehearsal with Grace this afternoon and
orchestra tonight. Not an extremely busy day by the sound of
it, but a lot of practicing will be interspersed. I really want to
get this first movement of the Bartok, and the Firebird from
orchestra needs some work...some of the measures are completely
wrong, so I am going to go through with the photo-copied sheet
to try and find mistakes in the part!

November 7, 2005

Monday has arrived. Today I have a rehearsal this afternoon and
a piano lesson following.

So, I am now working on the 2nd Bartok Rhapsody..it is gorgeous
and I really like it! There are lots of things to work on though,
the rythmical hierarchies, technical passages, and just all the
grace notes that are really fast and have double stops and what
not! Well, I shoudl probably get a move on the day!

November 6, 2005

Hello! I am finally beginning to feel better..it has been a long battle
against this stupid flu!

I have been having rehearsals as usual, but on Thursday I had to
reschedule Claire's, so she is coming this afternoon. We will be
working on some Bartok Duos, Bach Double third movement,
and possibly more if we get through all of that.

And I was reading an artcile about the Chicago Symphony on its
East Coast Tour and I read that their superb oboist, Alex Klein
is no longer a member of the orchestra because his "activities have
been curtailed by focal distonia, a repetitive-stress injury, in fingers
on his left hand." He is still able to play for short periods of time,
so our hearts go out to him, for it must be horrible!

I hope that everyone is keeping warm on this extremely windy day!

November 3, 2005

Hi! Today is another busy day. Lots of practice and rehearsals...
it will be tiring and fun! Next week the Schumann quintet will
perform the second movement, and then also we will be performing
at a hight school in Perysburg.

Tonight I have a rehearsal with Claire and we have a lot of stuff to
work on. We have a Bach Chorale, The Musical Offering by Bach
(with me on viola and Claire on violin), some Bartok duos, and the
third movement of the Bach Double.

November 2, 2005

Hello. Being sick is no fun! Today is a fairly busy day. I have a
Schumann rehearsal this afternoon. Eileen has a lesson today.
And I have a rehearsal tonight.

My mind is running a bit of a blank, so I am very sorry for the
shortness of this entry. I'm still not feeling so great, and words are
coming out a bit squabled.

October 31, 2005

Happy Halloween everyone! !Today I have quite a busy day...I am
getting all the music ready for the next concert. I need to find the music,
make copies, and do colors on the parts for the group with the dynamics
so that our first rehearsal has all the dynamics already set in place!

I have a rehearsal this afternoon and then a piano lesson tonight at
which I am working on the 8th invention..it still isn't completely
in my fingers correctly but it will be, and hopefully by tonight!

October 28, 2005

Yesterday was WONDERFUL!! We all had lots of fun playing...
and we all did great! The audience was enthusiastic and very
happy after the performance! I want to thank everyone who came..
you were a wonderful audience. And anyone who couldn't come..
I hope you can come to the next one on December 15!

Well, I am going to Illinois this weekend so I won't be writing, but
have an amazing weekend!!

October 27, 2005

Well, today is the big concert out at Wildwood..!! I am excited..
it should be really fun, and hopefully it will go really well..we have
all the pieces, we just need to play them the way that we practiced!

Well..I must go...loads of stuff to do!

October 25, 2005

Yesterday was a bit busy...practice and organizing in the morning,
a rehearsal at 1, and then another rehearsal with Olga at the Manor
House. Unfortunately, while I was at the rehearsal I messed up
my wrist a bit during a fifth false harmonic. It popped and made
a funny sound. I kept playing on it (which probably wasn't ideal)
but today it is starting to feel better..I will practice in increments
to make sure I don't hurt it again because it must be in full form
for Thursday's concert!! Must go now..lots to do!!

October 24, 2005

Yesterday's concert went great..lots of fun!! We had a small
audience but it didn't matter to us, we gave them a great
performance. Though we do have lots of food left!

Today I have a rehearsal with Olga and Cliff over at Wildwood
at the Manor House.

Well..lots of stuff to do this morning..must run!

October 21, 2005

Lots of rehearsals today. One this morning with Olga, one this
afternoon, and then group tonight. I hope all goes well. I am
having trouble getting in touch with one of the members of the
group. So, I am really hoping that it gets figured out..because
I really don't like all the conflict that it is causing."

Well, I hope everyone is having a great friday!

October 20, 2005

Today is a regular completely full Thursday. All kinds of rehearsals
including Schumann, orchestra, and violin rehearsal tonight. At
orchestra some of the members (Sarah, first chair violist, and first
chair cellist) won't be there because they have a performance tonight
at the Manor House So, if anyone is free at 7:30, go to the Manor
House and hear a Mozart piano quartet..it should be good!

Well, I should get moving on my day..tons to do!

October 19, 2005

Hi! Today UT starts back up again..so I have all my classes and
rehearsals. I also have my personal practice this morning and a big
rehearsal tonight. Also, later today Eileen has her lesson.

Today is quite a full day! So, I should go begin!

October 18, 2005

Hello! Wow...I have a feeling I say this every day (but every day it is
true)...yesterday exhausted me. I rode in the rain to my piano lesson.
Rode back home, and before that I had a rehearsal, and I practiced
all morning.

Today is another long day. There is no Orchestra or University classes
today because yesterday and today is their Fall Break. I still have
practice this morning, a big rehearsal with Grace this afternoon, and
a rehearsal tonight. Well, I should probably go..lots of things to do!!

October 17, 2005

Well, yesterday was very tiring. We had a great rehearsal yesterday
afternoon..quite productive. I also practiced all morning, and my mom
and I made posters and invites to the concerts this coming week.
Everyone who would like to come is invited to the concert on Thursday,
October 27 at the Wildwood Manor House at 7:30 PM. It will be
a very fun concert with some really amazing pieces!

October 15, 2005

Okay, so because of this whole riot in downtown Toledo there was a
curfew set for eight o'clock last night and tonight, so we couldn't have
rehearsal. We had to postpone it to today at 2. It was annoying having
to do all of that, but oh well.

The past two days have been crazy...lots of practice and, well, lots of
practice! I hope everyone is having a pleasant weekend!

October 13, 2005

Today is my fullest day of the week. I have practice this morning for
an hour and a half, a rehearsal with Olga, some more practice, Schumann
caoching, Schumann rehearsal, some practice, orchestra, and then
tonight there is the violin rehearsal at my house!! Crazy, I know..but
I hope it is all productive!!

I am excited about everything..so I am going to go get ready!

October 12, 2005

Hi! The concerts are getting closer and closer! It's all getting very
excting, so many things! Orchestra last night was lots of fun..I really
like playing the Stravinsky even though it is really hard for everyone!
But it is so funny..that since I am working on the piano-violin
Firebird (a couple of movements) I knew all these parts in some of
the movements. It is v. fun to work on!

My rehearsal with Grace went well, we worked on Bach and were trying
to get things a little more steady, and I think it is working...it's just a
matter of loosening up a bit.

Today I have Schumann rehearsal..we are now doing the second movement,
so that will be fun! Well, I will go practice!

October 11, 2005

Hello all! Sorry about my neglect...I have been extremely busy. New
pieces, tons of rehearsals, and so much more...it is unbelievable
how many things manage to fit into one day.

Today I have practice, rehearsal with Grace right after, a separate
rehearsal with Carolyn on the Scumann, and then orchestra, at which
we will be playing the Firebird, the Slavonic Dances, and the Prometheus
Overture. Well, I should probably go get ready for all of this!

October 7, 2005

Wow...yesterday was tiring..I can barely stay upright..I was playing or
practicing for almost 13 hours straight!! Everything went really great
though. The Schumann went wonderfully and I was really happy
with it. We also have now started the second movement, which
is fun and very much like Death and A Maiden by Schubert. The violin
rehearsal went really well too! I hope that the Saturday rehearsal
is the same!

October 6, 2005

Enter another crazy day! The Schumann group has an early rehearsal
at 12 and then a performance at 1. Then we have a coaching at 2.
I will then practice there for a couple of hours until orchestra at 5.
After that there is a violin rehearsal with Claire and Jon. I hope
everything goes well! In orchestra we have just gotten our music.
We are doing the Firebird by Stravinsky and the Prometheus
Overture by Beethoven! I hope everyone has a wonderous day!!

October 5, 2005

Yay!!! Yesterday was great!! I had loads of fun..I got to walk out,
bow, start the tuning, sit first chair, and play a solo!! hehe..it was
fun!!

Today is another full day. I have a Schumann rehearsal this afternoon
and then a couple separate Schumann rehearsals..with the other
violinist (Carolyn) and the cellist (Alex). I think I will ask Alex today
if he would like to join in with the group..see how he feels about it!!
I hope he wants to...becasue that would be great!

October 4, 2005

Today is the concert day! I am extremely excited..it should go really
really well! Today I also have a rehearsal with Grace to go over viola
stuff like the third movement of the Bach A minor. It will be fun!

Today is a busy day indeed..so I should go get ready!!

October 3, 2005

Hello! Sorry fro not writing over the weekend..it has been very hectic.
Sarurday at Oberlin was a ton of fun, and that night rehearsal went
extremely well! Sunday I had a rehearsal at UT with Mr. McNeela
and Jason (the cellist from orchestra) to prepare for the Swan Lake
on tomorrow's concert. Tonight I have a piano lesson and then a
dress rehearsal with orchestra, so it is quite busy! I will go now to get my
stuff ready, but I will tell you about it tomorrow!

October 1, 2005

Happy October!! Today I have a full day planned! My mom and I are
going o Oberlin..yay!! That will be sooo much fun..I can't practice and
look around the conservatory! It will be a blast!!

Then, when I get home there will be group practice! It will be a tiring day,
but very very fun!

September 30, 2005

And a drum roll please...I got the solo! It will be fun!

Yesterday went well..but I am still exhausted...could fall asleep right
here and now. Today I practice in the morning and then go for a rehearsal
at 1:30. And then tonight I plan on trying to get to bed early so that I am
ready for Oberlin tomorrow. My mom and I will have to leave early, and I
want to be ready for a big day of practice and looking around! Well...I should
go get ready or I will begin to procrastinate!! Practice, practice, practice!! :)

September 29, 2005

Well, tomorrow I hope to be able to tell you all that I either got or didn't
get the solo..the anticipation is KILLING me!!

Today is going to be a bit busy. At one I am going to the music department's
afternoon recital where my stand partner, Sarah, in orchestra is playing
in a Mozart piano quartet with two other people from orchestra. Also, my
piano teacher Olga is playing a solo, and Aura (the pianist in the Schumann)
is playing as well! After that there is a Schumann coaching with Mr.
McNeela. After that I will practice some more. Then there is orchestra, and after
orchestra I have a rehearsal with the violins in the group. Even though Jon's
hand has not fully recovered, he will be there and play as much as he can!

Well..life eagerly awaits!

September 28, 2005

I wish I could tell you that I have gotten or not gotten the solo, but after
both of us playing the Swan Lake yesterday, we won't know until Thursday!
That means we may have to play it more, but oh well..I guess that is just the
process.

Today is going to be a beautiful day hopefully..and I have a busy one (big
suprise...hehe). I have practice in the morning, individual practice at UT,
Schumann rehearsal, a lesson with Eileen, and then practice tonight! It
should all be fun! Well..I will commence my daily scedule..have a wonderful
day!!

September 27, 2005

Hi! Wish me luck..today I am doing the final round for the Tchaikovsky!
I really hope I get it..so I will go in completely prepared! Also, tonight
is orchestra, which is always fun, so it will be a good day. I must practice
this morning..I should get back to practicing the pieces (Mozart Sonata in
Eb Major and Bartok Hungarian Dances) that I will play with Olga!!
Lots of work..so I should go and start that!!

September 26, 2005

Hello. I am back! It has been an extremely rainy weekend, and today I
hope the rain holds off long enough for my bike ride!

I have lots of practicing to do still...lots of Bach (to make sure that it is
by heart), Biber (by heart), and getting my Paganini Caprice No. X
better...I am still getting messed up by some of it!

Well, I am going to go practice!

September 23, 2005

Tchaikovsky went really well, and I have to play it one more time on
Tuesday so that Mr. McNeela can make his final decision! I REALLY
hope that I get..I really like playing it and it would be really fun to solo
with the orchestra!

Yesterday was a really busy day, as I said, but I had a great time with
all the rehearsals!! It was really great! The Schumann is really coming
along, but I wish we could have more rehearsals to really make great!

Well, this weekend I am going to my dad's house, but will be back on
Sunday...so I will see you then!

September 22, 2005

Happy Autumn..today is the first day!! Today is going to be an extremely
busy day! I have my morning practice, and extra Schumann
rehearsal, a Schumann coaching, separate rehearsals with
some of the Schumann quintet members, more practice,
orchestra string sectional where we will be playing the
Tchaikovsky (hopefully!), and then to end the day a rehearsal
with Claire!! Well, today will definitely not get boring!! hehe

I must go begin my day full of practice and adventure!!

September 21, 2005

I lied...Mr. McNeela decided not to do the Tchaikovsky violin
solo audition yesterday. He said that he wanted to do it on
Thursday with the harps so that we could do more rehearsing
with the brass and wind sections.

Today I have quintet practice and that is always fun! So, I should
probably go practice!

September 20, 2005

Hi!! Yesterday was a day full of practice, and today will be too.
But today is the Tchaikovsky audition in orchestra, so I am a
bit nervous. Everything should go well because I know it
through and through..but it is still nerve racking. Oh, by the
way, the Tchaikovsky audition is the audition for the solo in the
Swan Lake Suite. I'm excited!!

Well, I should be off, I have practice, and later Grace is coming,
and then I have more practice, and then orchestra tonight!!

September 19, 2005

Hello, hello! Yesterday was busy busy bee day! Full of lots of
photocopying and practice! hehe..I know dandy, isn't it..but it was
fun..lots of time (all Sunday afternoon) to do my practice and go
over to Kinlo's and do some copying of the Galamian exercise
book!!

Well..i am sorry for my rush, but i really must go practice..!!!

September 18, 2005

Hello! Yesterday was really fun! Oberlin was GREAT! It was really
pretty and their practice rooms are AMAZING, big and spacious with
grand pianos! I got to have a look around, and Katie (the person who
organized my mom coming and teaching) said that the next time I come
she will give me a tour!! YAY!

Group also went really well! We got through a lot..and I was really quite
pleased! Now I must go and practice my stuff!

September 16, 2005

Yesterday was a busy day! I was in the music for almost six hours
practicing and having rehearsals. When I got home I was exhausted,
but there was still more to do, so tpday I am still a bit out of it.
This afternoon I will ride over for a rehearsal, and that will be
fun..I REALLY hope it doesn't rain!! And tonight..for the moment,
i have a rehearsal arranged for the violists in the group..Grace and
Shawn.

Well, I should go begin my daily things!!

September 15, 2005

Hello! Yesterday was a fun day. I had quintet practice at the arts
building and then I practiced there for awhile. Today I have the same
thing, but today's quintet rehearsal is a masterclass with Mr. McNeela.
I will also be having a coaching with him on the Swan Lake Suite
solo violin part. Then, I have orchestra at five (today is the string
sectional). Lastly, Claire is coming over tonight to work on stuff
together...so today is a loonngg day!!

September 14, 2005

Hi! Today is a fairly busy day. I have my practice all morning (like
usual), but then I also have to go to the music building for some
practice and quintet practice. That should be fun...the people in
my group are v. v. nice!

Yesterday's orchestra rehearsal went really well..there are a couple
things that I must practice...like some Verdi and the solo for Swan
Lake, but other that that it was really fun! I should have those pieces
ready by Thursday!!

Oh, and I forgot..Eileen will also be coming for a lesson this evening!
She will be getting a new piece. She will be very excited!

September 13, 2005

Hello! Wow...this month is going quickly! It is already the 13th!
Well, my life is pretty much the same..lots of practice!! And
tonight I have orchestra...oh, and also the other violinist in my
quintet and I will be getting together to practice our parts together.
That should be v. helpful!!

I really wish I could write more, but I don't want to run late on
practicing!!

September 12, 2005

Hello everybody, I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend! I
had a weekend that was filled with both calm moments and busy ones.
I finally picked up my electric violin from Mr. Ball in Perrysiburg.
I used it some and the strings are still highter off the fingerboard, but
not as bad as before. It is a v. good finger strngthening excercise..
so it will be good to practice scales on!

Well, today I have a full day ahead..so i must go! Happy day!

September 9, 2005

I had a really nice day yesterday. Very calming (though it was busy).
I practiced all morning. Then at one I practiced over at UT for an hour
before the coaching with Mr. McNeela, which I liked very much. It
was a fun coaching. After that I practiced in a practice room for
another two hours before have a string sectional for orchestra.

So, that was pretty much my day..practice..a lot!! hehe Speaking of
practice..I should probably go do that now. Have an adventurous
day!!

September 8, 2005

Hi! Yesterday was a fun day. I spent some time in the music building.
I practiced there for an hour in a cute little practice room, and then
I had the Schumann rehearsal. It went really well because the strings
got to figure some stuff out..we worked out our bowings and when
we're together with who. It was really fun! Today we have another
Schumann rehearsal, but today it is a coaching with Mr. McNeela.
I'm really excited! After that I will stay in the building and practice
until I have orchestra!

Yesterday I looked through my Mozart G major again because
I need to keep my repetoir going. It is MUCH easier than it
used to be, and it is really fun to do! I even found cadenzas to
put into the second and third movements that I really liked!
FUN FUN!!

Well, I really must go..lots of practicing to get done!! Have a
wonderful day!

September 7, 2005

Hello! Today is a beautiful Wednesday and I hope that everyone is
prepared to enjoy it! Today I have my Shumann Quintet rehearsal
in the afternoon over at the Performing Arts building. I just got the
score to the piece yesterday from Aura (the pianist in the group
and the woman who performed a Beethoven Piano Concerto with
orchestra last year). So I have studied the score a bit, but I need
to photocopy it, study it, and get it back to Aura soon. She has
another score now..so I haven't taken away her means of practice...
but still, she might need it back.

I am still working very hard on the Biber Passagalia. I am trying to
get my double stops very sonorous and also am working on keeping
the rythmical hierarchy very steady. It is a really fun piece and I
recommend people get a recording to listen to...lots of fun. Though I
may be putting a recording of it soon on the website!!

Well, I can no longer postpone my day from beginning, so I must go!!
Have a wonderful day full of joy!

September 5, 2005

Hello all! Sorry about the delay in writing! I have been trying to get so
many things done that I have been ignoring you all...v. v. sorry! Well,
I have been working extremely hard on the Biber. It is getting there,
and really really like it...it is really fun! Oh, and I need to correct
something from my last entry..the group is playing Vivaldi Op.8 No.6,
not No. 7..that will be the next concert. We are also working on the
Bach Concerto in A minor which we started on Saturday and everyone
really enjoys because they get to play constantly and it is very
contrapunctal!

Well, HAPPY LABOR DAY!! But I must go practice...have a rehearsal this
afternoon!

August 30, 2005

HELLO EVERYBODY!! I have missed you all sooo much! I am glad to
see that you all are coming back to see what my daily life is like again!
Now, my life is pretty much back to normal after a v. v. long, crazy,
and awesomely fun summer! I have started back up with orchestra
and the group had their first rehearsal this past Saturday (we are
rehearsing for our first concerts of the season at the end of October).
We practiced the next Vivalidi in Op. 8 which is No. 7. It is really
fun.

Also, orchestra this year is themed. We are doing all ballet and dance
music in preparation for our pit performances of Peter Pan with the
Toledo Ballet. Ballet musis isn't all exactly my fave, but I will learn
to like it...and it can be v. fun!

Mt two summer camps were AMAZING this summer. At Soundfest
(organized and taught by the Colorado String Quartet) in Falmouth, MA
I was in two quartets which we played the Dvorak "American" String
Quartet and also Mozart K 575. It was soooo much fun...and my groups
not only played AWESOMELY, but we also had a great conncetion
(meaning we got along great...no separate planes for us!).

My next camp was MYA in Lake Forest, IL at the Lake Forest Academy.
This camp was also v. v. fun!!! I was in a quartet that played the Prokofiev
String Quartet No. 2 (which we got coached on by some amazing people
and are even in a documentary of the MYA camp made by the National
Endowment for the Arts). We also played Beethoven Op. 18 No.2 which
was v. fun to do. At MYA there was also an orchestra that took place at
night. It is a camp that goes all year round and the people in the camp were
to play in the orchestra along with the regular members. We played Rhapsody
in Blue by Gershwin, An American in Paris by Gershwin, Shosty No. 5,
and Candide by Bernstein. I also was in a music history and music theory class
that met every afternoon for two hours...and suprisingly, I absolutely LOVED
them! I liked the teacher, I liked what we were learning, and I LOVED
it when I finally understood theory! It was really fun!

Then, when MYA was over and I went to Italy I got to take lesson from
Eugenio Prete, the same man that I took lessons from last year..and as
it was last year..it was very fun and a great learning experience to be in
Italy and doing music. I'm getting a little better with the names of the
notes! haha

And now I am back here in Toledo, beginnig and new season and MANY
new pieces!! If I remember anything that I have missed I will be sure to add
it to my next entries!! Sorry for the longevity of this one...but I wanted to get lots
of my summer in to you all!! Have a wonderful day...and I will begin
writing daily again if you would like to know what I'm doing! Remember
that I check my email often (at least once a day) so if you would like to get in
touch with me email me at Mayaitalia@aol.com  !!

WOW..the time has really been flying~!! I can't believe that I haven't written
in three days...I apologize. Things have been absolutely crazy..rehearsals
have been pretty constant. I've had long reherasals at Wildwood with Olga,
I've had a violin lesson with Merwin, group rehearsals, just me rehearsals...
so that has been my life!!

Today is the Wildwood Manor House Concert..so everyone who can come
should definitely come...it is at 7:30 PM. It is going to be a really good one...
lots of fun!

Well, I must practice now...but remember the concert tonight..it will be an event
not to miss!!!

June 6, 2005

Hello! I apologize for not writing for two days. Life has been very very busy.
Yesterday we had the house concert and it went wonderfully, now all we need
is for the Wildwood concert to go in the same way and it will be great!!

Today I will practice this morning, have a violin lesson with Merwin (at which I
would like him to work with me on my quartet music..Mozart and Dvorak), and
then a rehearsal tonight. Between that I will be hanging around dying of heat..
hehe..just kidding!!

I hope everyone a a wonderful hot and humid day!! :)
